Following the wins in the recently-concluded Assembly elections in the three states of Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has conveyed to senior leaders of the party, especially the ones who are in their third terms in Rajya Sabha, that they need to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. They also include Cabinet ministers, reported The Indian Express, citing sources.
However, they are free to choose their seats.
The leader said that the strategy had given “very good results” in the Assembly elections in the state. In the recent polls, the BJP ad fielded as many as 18 MPs, including four Union ministers, across MP, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
From Delhi, two party leaders, including one incumbent Union minister are expected to be fielded.
Minister of State, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, are central ministers from Karnataka who are in their third Rajya Sabha terms, while from Gujarat, the ministers are Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Parshottam Rupala.
BJP national president JP Nadda is also a member of the Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh. Former Union Minister Prakash Javadekar is also in the list.
