The Vivo X100 Pro and Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus may be poles apart, much in the same way like chalk and cheese, but they have one thing in common. Or at least they do from an India perspective. Launching on the same day, i.e. January 4 2024, the X100 Pro and Note 13 Pro Plus will be the most premium phones that Vivo and Redmi are gearing to sell in the world’s fastest growing smartphone market. And so, it goes without saying that both phones will have a lot to prove in the coming days. They ought to do well but if their hardware is anything to go by, Vivo and Redmi have their work cut out because both phones seem mighty impressive on paper.
While the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus will try to offer the most high-end specs at the lowest prices, the X100 Pro will bring in the big guns to take on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (and by extension, the upcoming S24 Ultra) and Google’s Pixel 8 Pro at the highest-end of the mobile spectrum. You can expect nothing but fireworks on D-day and rest assured FE Tech Bytes will be covering all the big news and updates from both camps, including in-depth reviews to give you a sense of how the two phones fair, eventually, but for now, here’s a quick rundown on all that’s coming.
But wait, there’s more. The X100 Pro is packed to the gills in all the other areas too. It has the Dimensity 9300, the fastest chip that MediaTek makes at the time of writing, a 6.78-inch 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED display that can peak a whopping 3,000 nits, a ginormous 5,400mAh battery with 120Hz fast wired and 50W wireless charging, all meticulously put together inside an IP68-rated chassis.
Spin-off iQOO recently took the market by storm pricing the iQOO 12 so well, it made you wonder what’s the catch (spoiler alert: there’s none) and if Vivo prices the X100 Pro anything like it, that should make Samsung and OnePlus very nervous. So, fingers crossed there.
Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus— the one that might just humble OnePlusThe Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus almost feels like an anomaly. Except in a few areas, that you’re most likely to not notice, it’s a flagship phone through and through. Something you don’t usually expect from a Redmi. But it is and that dear readers perfectly sums up this upcoming phone from the Xiaomi spin-off brand. We won’t get into the nitty-gritties of how the Redmi Note has evolved and come to this new avatar, but as they say, change is the only constant. And this change is looking good, might we add, which is what matters anyway.
The specs are insane for a Redmi. You get a 6.67-inch 1.5K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,800 nits of peak brightness, up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS3.1 storage, a 5,000mAh battery with 120W fast wired charging, and a 200-megapixel main camera in this phone. Its design, especially the version with “vegan leather”, is already drawing waves of attention on social media but an even bigger deal is the official IP68 rating, which is another first we’re coming across on a Redmi phone.
There’s no denying that the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus could see a jump in pricing but we might just want to cut Xiaomi some slack here. And while at it, might as well give it a chance to prove itself. All this and more will be revealed soon enough but if Xiaomi is able to undercut OnePlus, which it would most likely, the upcoming OnePlus 12R could be in for a serious challenge.
