YS Sharmila joins Congress, merges YSRTP ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls

YS Sharmila, founder and president of YSR Telangana Party and sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Thursday joined the Congress party in New Delhi.

This development comes shortly after the Congress swept the Assembly polls in Telangana, ending the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) dominance in the state.

She is the daughter of the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, and the sister of the current Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
During the recently held assembly polls in Telangana, Sharmila had announced her support to the Congress to end the alleged corrupt and anti-people rule of the BRS led by K Chandrasekhar Rao.
