Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik will lay the foundation stone for the much-awaited Bhubaneswar Metro project today.The Rs 6,255 crore project is one of the single largest investments made in any infrastructure project in Odisha. Announced on Odisha Diwas on April 1, 2023, the Detailed Project Report has already been approved by the Patnaik government.

The first phase ofBhubaneswar Metro, amounting to Rs 6,255 crore, will encompass 26 km with 20 elevated stations, which will promote transit-oriented development in Odisha.
Patnaik expressed satisfaction in delivering another promise from the 2019 manifesto and emphasized DMRC’s expertise in metro rail construction and operation. “I am happy that my government is delivering yet another promise that was made in our 2019 manifesto,” the Chief Minister said.He anticipates the Bhubaneswar Metro to meet world-class standards and adhere to the scheduled timeline.
DMRC as the key project consultantIn November 2023, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was engaged as the turn-key consultant for the inaugural phase of the Bhubaneswar Metro, spanning from the airport to Trishulia Square in Cuttack.
An agreement, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation and the DMRC, outlines the completion of the project within four years.
We are now poised to transform the transportation landscape in the state’s capital region. This is a flagship programme under the 5T (teamwork, technology, transparency, timely completion leading to transformation) initiative of the government that will also symbolise the emergence of a new Odisha,” CM Patnaik said.
