The upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024 is poised to host leaders such as Timor-Leste’s President José Ramos-Horta and Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala. This biennial event, established by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2003 as the then Chief Minister, has evolved into a pivotal platform for policymakers, investors, and business leaders to cultivate collaborations and explore investment opportunities.
President José Ramos-Horta, a co-recipient of the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize, will make his inaugural visit to India in his current capacity, signifying the deepening diplomatic ties between the two nations. Notably, India’s announcement of establishing an embassy in Timor-Leste’s capital, Dilli, during the ASEAN-India Summit in September 2023 marked a significant milestone.
Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala’s participation builds on the momentum from the 2019 visit by then-Prime Minister Andrej Babis, reflecting the flourishing bilateral economic relations since the Czech Republic’s entry into the European Union in 2004. Bilateral trade has surged to over US $3.16 billion in 2022, a noteworthy increase from US $86 million in 1993.
The summit will also be graced by the presence of President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE and Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi. The UAE, as the seventh-largest investor in India, underscores robust economic ties, strengthened by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Mozambique’s attendance highlights the strategic importance of the oil and gas sector in bilateral cooperation, with Indian companies actively participating in a Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) project, emphasizing collaborative efforts to explore mutual economic opportunities.
