The northern regions of India, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan, are expected to endure Cold Day to Severe Cold Day conditions for the next two days, with a significant decrease anticipated thereafter. Additionally, Northwest India is likely to experience dense to very dense fog during the next two days, gradually diminishing thereafter.
The weather forecast by India Meteorological Department (IMD) also indicates a fresh spell of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and hailstorm activities in Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh from January 8-10. Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall is expected over South Peninsular India, with isolated instances of heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu over the next five days and in Kerala over the next two days.
Cold and foggy day in DelhiThe meteorological department forecasts predominantly clear skies and cold to severe cold daytime conditions for today. According to IMD, the expected maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 6 and 8 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Rain, snowfall likely across HimachalAccording to the latest forecast by the local meteorological office, a wet spell is predicted for the state on January 9 and 10, potentially bringing rain and snowfall across various regions. The Meteorological Department also warned of dense fog during the morning hours in Mandi, Bilaspur, Una, Kangra, Sirmaur (Paonta Sahib and Dhaulakuan), and Solan (Baddi and Nalagarh) districts on Sunday.
Additionally, a new western disturbance is expected to impact northwest India starting January 8, leading to predicted rain in low hills on January 9 and rain and snow at isolated locations in mid and high hills on January 9 and 10.
Rainfall in Chennai, Cuddalore, other Tamil Nadu districtsParts of Tamil Nadu experienced light to moderate spells of rain at isolated places. “Moderate rain is very likely at isolated places over Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai and Karaikal,” the Regional Meteorological Centre said.
“Light rain is likely at isolated places over Thiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Viluppuaram, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhnagar, Thirunelveli, Kanniyakumari and Puducherry,” it added.
