Bengaluru to become ‘Sports Hub of India’, says Minister Anurag Thakur as sports infra boosts under Khelo India scheme

While inaugurating the newly constructed 330 bedded & 300 bedded hotels and 400m synthetic athletics track on Saturday, Union Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur asserted that Bengaluru will soon be called a ‘Sports Hub of India’ with the right weather conditions and sports infrastructure.With a project cost of Rs 28.72 cr, the 330-bed hotel is a ground+5 facility that was opened at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) regional centre in Bengaluru. The hostel rooms are designed with all amenities for athletics, sports, and recreation with a suitable ambiance. Besides, a Rs 25 crore hotel with state-of-the-art facilities for female athletes has also been established.Hailing the enthusiasm for sports and athletics, Thakur appreciated the veteran athletes being proactive and initiating their academies, passing on the knowledge, taking part in training or assessment camps, and making valuable contributions to the country’s new dominance in sports.
The 300-bed hostel has been completed at an approximate cost of Rs 26.77 crore under the Khelo India scheme. The hostel, situated on a one-acre site, stands tall at ground+4 floors, boasting modern amenities to cater to the diverse needs of its players.
Besides 8 full lanes and 2 lanes of synthetic tracks, the project includes a 500m clay track & 100m sand track for high-performance training. The track has unique features like timing gates technology with both hardware & software integrated beneath the surface of the athletic track.
The flagship central government’s sports scheme Khelo India has been infusing sports culture and achieving sporting excellence in the country since its launch in 2016, harnessing the power of sports through its cross-cutting influence.
The programme includes playfield development, community coaching development, promotion of community sports, and the establishment of a strong sports competition structure at both school and university levels.
