In the domain of family enterprises, tradition often sees successors embracing and contributing to the established legacy. However, exceptions exist—individuals who opt to carve out their unique identities through independent ventures.
Rohan Narayana Murty, son of Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy, stands out as a noteworthy example, navigating a distinctive course while simultaneously supporting his illustrious parents.
Adding to the family’s prominence is his sister, Akshata Murty, the spouse of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Rohan’s journey serves as a testament to unyielding determination, diligent effort, and notable accomplishments, spanning from his early affinity for programming to the initiation and expansion of his startup, Soroco.
Early FoundationsThe narrative of Rohan’s success commences in his formative years, nurtured within a supportive environment with renowned parents who fueled his enthusiasm for programming and innovation. His schooling at Bangalore’s Bishop Cotton Boys’ School laid the groundwork for his subsequent endeavours.
Subsequently, he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in computer science at Cornell University, followed by a Ph.D. in computer engineering from Harvard University, specializing in opportunistic wireless networks.
Founding SorocoElecting the less-trodden path of technical innovation, Rohan co-founded Soroco in 2014 alongside distinguished computer scientists Arjun Narayan and George Nychis. The company redefined how businesses approached digital transformation, focusing on technology driven by artificial intelligence. Rohan took charge of the technological operations of his startup.
In recent years, Soroco has undergone substantial growth, with ambitious plans to tap into a $15 billion market serving 500 million white-collar employees globally, according to Forbes. While Soroco doesn’t disclose revenue figures, the NelsonHall Vendor Evaluation & Assessment Tool (NEAT) predicts top-line revenues for 2022 to reach $18 million.
Capitalizing on his connection to Infosys, Rohan holds a significant share in the company, valued at Rs 5.55 trillion. Business Today reported that Rohan, with 1.67% ownership, received Rs 106.42 crore in dividend income from his 6,08,12,892 shares.
Rohan Murty’s journey epitomizes the pursuit of individuality and success beyond the shadows of a family’s established empire, underscoring that carving one’s path is both a formidable and rewarding endeavour.
