Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has surpassed Reliance Industries Limited Chairman Mukesh Ambani to regain the top spot as the richest man in Asia, with a total net worth of $97.6 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index. Gautam Adani is now the world’s 12th richest person, up from the 15th position in December 2023.
Adani had lost his position as India’s richest man to the RIL chairman almost a year ago after a massive dip in the valuation of his conglomerate, triggered by a report by US-based short seller Hindenburg Research. Meanwhile, Mukesh Ambani, per the data, secured the position of second richest man in Asia and 13th in the world with a net worth of $97.0 billion.
Billionaire Gautam Adani has surpassed Reliance Industries Limited Chairman Mukesh Ambani to become India’s richest person, supported by a strong rally in the listed shares of his conglomerate, the Adani Group. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court refused to transfer the investigation currently being carried out by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to a separate Special Investigation Team (SIT). Stating that its power to enter the regulator’s domain was ‘limited’, the court asked Sebi to conclude its investigation into the allegations by US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research within three months. The verdict prompted Gautam Adani to tweet – “Truth has prevailed.”
According to the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index, Elon Musk stayed in the top position as the richest person in the world with a net worth of $220 billion, followed by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos with a net worth of $169 billion. Bernard Arnault, Chairman and CEO of LVMH, secured the third position in the list with a net worth of $168 billion. Bill Gates came in fourth at $138 billion, Steve Ballmer at $128 billion and Mark Zuckerberg at $126 billion. The Bloomberg Billionaires Index is a daily ranking of the world’s richest people.
